Poster Italian Art

How do I identify a painting on a poster?

On a London tube station I saw a poster containing a painting of a nude female figure. I don't know much about art, but it looked as though it may be Renaissance, perhaps French or Italian.
Apart from looking at thousands of pictures, can you recommend how to identify the painter and title?

This is just a stab in the dark but could it have been this exhibition:

The Royal Academy of Arts exhibition Lucas Cranach the Elder (c.1472–1553).

I'm sorry can't make the picture copy into here but it is a naked lady standing against a dark background, so please check the link to see if she is the one, she is halfway down the page.

This is what the RA say about the artist:
As the leading member of a German family of artists, Lucas Cranach was a painter, printmaker and book illustrator with a distinctly individual manner and a highly successful business. He was one of the most versatile artists of the Renaissance, court artist to the Saxon electors, a staunch supporter of the Reformation, and a close friend of Martin Luther. During the course of his long career, Cranach created striking portraits and expressive devotional works, propaganda for the Protestant cause, as well as his own brand of erotic female nude and inventive treatments of biblical, mythological and classical subjects.

I hope this is the one, if not then as you say without any clues the only way is to look at lots of similar pictures. So Google images or something.

A poster is normal an advert for an exhibition so even if it doesn't tell you what the picture is you should be able to find it by looking at the exibititor's website. eg National Gallery etc.
