In 2001 the comedy film of Joe Dirt was made.  It starred David Spade as well as other well-known comedian.  It was written by David Spade.

Joe Dirt wasn't much of a success with the critics.  It generally averaged 3 out of 10.  Those famous TV reviewers both gave it a big thumbs down.  They didn't like anything about it.  They did like Spade in the movie.

It earned over $25 million in the US market.  Joe Dirt earned cash.  Its budget was only $16 million.  It also made it to number one in New Zealand.  Some of the stars quipped that New Zealand was smaller than WalMart.  Dennis Miller has a radio show where he frequently talks about the movie.  He has conducted interviews with Spade about the movie.

Joe Dirt is a custodian at a radio station.  A producer sees Joe being bullied in the hall and decides that his white trash attitude could become popular.  He puts Joe with a disc jockey who interviews him on the air.  The movie is Joe telling his story.

Joe Dirt loves a girl named Brandy.  Her dog dies, so Joe decides to look for his parents.  He begins a journey across America.  He has some wacky adventures.  He also meets a number of odd characters.  He also takes on many odd jobs.  The last of these is his job in the boiler room of the radio station.

Joe Dirt finally decides to return to Brandy.  He learns that she always knew his mother and father had died.  His search was useless.  

The listeners love Joe Dirt.  He's become a media sensation.  A woman claiming to be his mother calls him.  It turns out it's all a scam.  Her goal is to sell figures based on him.  She is his mother, but she's only interested in money.

Joe Dirt jumps off a bridge to kill himself.  He's  saved by a bungee cord.  He rebounds right into the bridge.  He later wakes up at Brandy's house surrounded by many of the people he's met on his journey.  He has finally found a family.  That's pretty silly.  Critics hated it for good reason.
